Dihexa is commonly handled as a lyophilized powder in laboratory settings. Storage at -20 °C in a desiccated, light-protected container is typical for peptides. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles can degrade the material, so aliquoting is often recommended. Aqueous solutions may be less stable than organic stocks and should be prepared fresh when possible. Personnel should follow institutional safety procedures and avoid uncontrolled exposure. Because human effects are not well characterized, handling precautions are prudent.
The proposed mechanism of dihexa centers on activation of the hepatocyte growth factor receptor, also called c-Met. Some studies suggest it acts as a mimetic of hepatocyte growth factor, promoting signaling pathways involved in synapse formation. Other work has explored interactions with angiotensin IV pathways, but the exact binding targets remain uncertain. Laboratory findings come mainly from cell cultures and animal models. Whether these mechanisms operate similarly in humans is an open question. Researchers have not established a single, universally accepted mechanism of action.
Identity and purity of dihexa samples are typically assessed with high-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. These methods can confirm molecular mass and estimate the presence of impurities. However, a certificate of analysis from a supplier is not a guarantee of independent testing. Researchers often require in-house verification before using a peptide in experiments. For solid samples, appearance, solubility, and chromatographic profile provide additional checks. Nuclear magnetic resonance may be used for structural confirmation when available.
Laboratory characterization of dihexa typically relies on reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography for purity and mass spectrometry for identity. These methods are standard for synthetic peptides and help distinguish the target compound from related impurities or degradation products. Because dihexa is a small peptide-like molecule, it may be susceptible to hydrolysis under certain conditions. Storage recommendations generally emphasize low temperature, dryness, and protection from light. Analytical certificates from suppliers vary in detail, so independent verification can be important for research use.
Reported effects of dihexa are often described in terms of synaptogenesis, a process by which neurons form new synaptic connections. This concept is biologically plausible but difficult to measure directly in living humans. Animal behavioral tests can suggest memory or learning changes, yet such tests have limitations and may not translate to people. The literature includes conflicting or incomplete findings, and some studies are small. As a result, the mechanism remains a subject of investigation rather than a settled explanation.

Dihexa is a synthetic peptide with the chemical name N-hexanoic-Tyr-Ile-(6)-aminohexanoic amide, and it is structurally related to angiotensin IV, a naturally occurring peptide fragment. Researchers developed it as a modified analog intended to alter stability and activity relative to the parent peptide. Its short sequence and fatty acid chain distinguish it from many endogenous peptides, and published studies often describe it under the abbreviation dihexa. The compound is classified as a laboratory compound rather than an approved therapeutic in most jurisdictions.
Early laboratory work focused on its effects on synaptic connectivity and neuronal signaling. In cell and animal models, dihexa has been reported to promote the formation of new synapses, a process called synaptogenesis. These findings have generated interest in cognitive research, but the evidence base remains mostly preclinical. Human clinical trials with clear safety and efficacy endpoints are limited or absent in the public literature. Whether these effects translate to humans is an open question.
Dihexa is a synthetic compound studied in laboratory and animal models for effects on synaptic connectivity and cognitive performance. It is often described as a peptide analog because its structure incorporates amino acid residues linked to a hexanoic acid group. The molecule is not a naturally occurring human hormone or neurotransmitter. Its name appears in research literature and online discussions, but it has not been approved as a medicine by major regulatory agencies. Most information comes from preclinical experiments rather than controlled human trials.
The compound originated from work on angiotensin IV, a peptide fragment of the renin-angiotensin system. Researchers modified angiotensin IV-related structures to produce molecules with altered stability and activity. Dihexa emerged from that effort and was reported to promote dendritic spine growth in cultured neurons. Some studies link its effects to hepatocyte growth factor signaling and the c-Met receptor, while other work points to insulin-regulated aminopeptidase. The precise primary target remains a subject of investigation, and findings may depend on cell type, assay conditions, and species.
In animal research, dihexa has been administered through several routes, and reports describe improved performance on spatial learning and memory tasks in rodents. These results are frequently cited in discussions of nootropic compounds. However, species differences, small sample sizes, and varied testing protocols limit how far the findings can be generalized. No large randomized controlled trials in humans have established efficacy or long-term safety. Claims about human cognitive enhancement therefore remain speculative, and the compound is best described as an experimental laboratory substance rather than a proven therapeutic or supplement.
Jerden later said that he was told Staley felt animosity toward him dating back to the Dirt sessions due to Jerden repeatedly recommending to Staley that he get sober. Jerden said, "Apparently he got all mad at me [during the Dirt sessions] ... And what's my job as a producer? To produce a record. I'm not getting paid to be Layne's friend". Staley was not the only one who went through heavy drug use; drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Starr were both struggling with alcoholism, while the latter was also addicted to heroin. Jerden got the album's famous guitar tone by blending three different amps – a Bogner Fish preamp for the low end, a Bogner Ecstacy for the mid frequencies, and a Rockman Headphone amp for the high frequencies.

On 1 July 1972 at Villamanrique de la Condesa, near Seville, Spain, he married Princess Maria da Gloria of Orléans-Braganza (b. 1946) from the Brazilian imperial family, at the parish church of St. Mary Magdalene. They are double 4th cousins once removed as both are descendants of Prince Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1785–1851) and Princess Maria Antonia von Koháry (1797–1862), as well as of Pedro I, Emperor of Brazil and Archduchess Maria Leopoldina of Austria. They have three sons: Peter (born 5 February 1980), and fraternal twins: Philip and Alexander (both born 15 January 1982). Alexander and Maria da Gloria divorced on 19 February 1985. Both of them married for the second time. Maria da Gloria married Ignacio de Medina, Duke of Segorbe (b. 1947), while Crown Prince Alexander married Katherine Clairy Batis, daughter of Robert Batis and Anna Dosti, civilly on 20 September 1985, and religiously the following day, at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, Notting Hill, London. Since their marriage, she is known as Crown Princess Katherine, as per the royal family's website. On 16 December 2017, Alexander attended with his wife the state funeral of his first cousin once removed, King Michael of Romania in Bucharest, along with other heads of European royal families and invited guests. On 19 September 2022, Crown Prince Alexander and his wife Katherine attended the state funeral of his godmother Queen Elizabeth II.

== Signs and symptoms == Hallmark symptoms of ciguatera in humans include gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, and neurological effects. Gastrointestinal symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, usually followed by neurological symptoms such as headaches, muscle aches, numbness of the extremities, mouth and lips, reversal of hot and cold sensation, ataxia, vertigo, and hallucinations. Severe cases of ciguatera can also result in cold allodynia, which is a burning sensation on contact with cold. Neurological symptoms can persist and ciguatera poisoning is occasionally misdiagnosed as multiple sclerosis. Cardiovascular symptoms include bradycardia, tachycardia, hypotension, hypertension, orthostatic tachycardia, exercise intolerance, and abnormal electrocardiograms. Death from the condition can occur, but is very rare. Dyspareunia and other ciguatera symptoms have developed in otherwise healthy males and females following sexual intercourse with partners suffering ciguatera poisoning, signifying that the toxin may be sexually transmitted. Diarrhea and facial rashes have been reported in breastfed infants of poisoned mothers, suggesting that the polyether toxins partition into breast milk. The symptoms can last from weeks to months, and in extreme cases as long as 20 years, often leading to long-term disability. Most people do recover slowly over time, but genetically susceptible individuals are not able to remove the toxin and will remain sick indefinitely without medical treatment
== Mechanism of action == Zidesamtinib is a kinase inhibitor that works by blocking ROS1, an abnormal protein that drives some lung cancers to grow, including forms that have become resistant to earlier ROS1 treatments. Zidesamtinib also works on the related protein ALK. In laboratory and animal studies, zidesamtinib stopped cancer cells with ROS1 changes from growing and slowed tumor growth, including tumors in the brain.

Smearing a colony sample onto a glass slide and adding a solution of hydrogen peroxide (3% H2O2) will indicate whether the enzyme is present or not. Bubbling is a positive test while nothing happening is a negative result.
Low dietary vitamin B6 correlated with a higher risk of depression in women but not in men. When treatment trials were reviewed, no meaningful treatment effect for depression was reported, but a subset of trials in pre-menopausal women suggested a benefit, with a recommendation that more research was needed. The results of several trials with children diagnosed as having autism spectrum disorder (ASD) treated with high dose vitamin B6 and magnesium did not result in treatment effect on the severity of symptoms of ASD.
