The angiotensin IV connection places dihexa in a family of short peptides studied for effects on central nervous system signaling. Angiotensin IV itself is a metabolite of angiotensin II, and analogs have been explored in cardiovascular and neurological research. Dihexa differs from the natural peptide through structural modifications intended to alter stability and receptor interactions. Published descriptions sometimes call it a hepatocyte growth factor mimetic, although that label reflects proposed activity rather than a confirmed clinical mechanism.
Identity checks for dihexa usually rely on mass spectrometry and chromatographic purity analysis. A lyophilized powder is the common supplied form, and it may appear as a white to off-white solid. Aqueous solubility is limited, so laboratory work often uses an organic solvent such as dimethyl sulfoxide to prepare stock solutions. Because the peptide is not a standard pharmaceutical product, exact specifications can vary between suppliers. Certificates of analysis may accompany a batch, but they are not equivalent to regulatory approval.
Regulatory treatment varies by country. Dihexa does not appear in major pharmacopeias as a licensed therapeutic substance. Suppliers may use labels such as research use only or not for human consumption. Such labels reflect legal and quality-control boundaries rather than evidence of clinical benefit. Importation, possession, and sale can be restricted depending on local laws, and enforcement focuses on claims, distribution channels, and product categories. These rules can change, and they differ from rules for approved medicines.
Dihexa is a synthetic peptide studied in preclinical neuroscience. It is often described as an angiotensin IV analog or derivative. The compound also appears under research codes such as PNB-0408 and N-hexanoic-Tyr-Ile-(6)-aminohexanoic amide. It is not an approved drug, and it is not a conventional vitamin or nutrient. In many jurisdictions, material sold as dihexa is handled as a research chemical rather than a medicine or supplement. This classification affects how the material is labeled and distributed.
Chemically, dihexa is a short peptide-like molecule with nonstandard components. Its structure includes tyrosine and isoleucine residues linked to a hexanoic acid group and an aminohexanoic amide segment. This design distinguishes it from endogenous angiotensin IV, though the two are discussed together because of shared origins. Published summaries classify it as a small synthetic peptide with lipophilic features that may influence how it crosses biological barriers in experimental systems. Exact conformational details depend on the specific salt or free base form.

The proposed mechanism involves interaction with the hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) system and its receptor, c-Met. Dihexa is described in some studies as an HGF mimetic, meaning it may mimic or enhance HGF-mediated signaling. Activation of c-Met can influence cell growth, survival, and cytoskeletal remodeling, pathways that intersect with synaptic plasticity. However, the precise binding targets and downstream events for dihexa are not fully established, and alternative mechanisms have been suggested.
Dihexa is a synthetic peptide with the chemical name N-hexanoic-Tyr-Ile-(6)-aminohexanoic amide, and it is structurally related to angiotensin IV, a naturally occurring peptide fragment. Researchers developed it as a modified analog intended to alter stability and activity relative to the parent peptide. Its short sequence and fatty acid chain distinguish it from many endogenous peptides, and published studies often describe it under the abbreviation dihexa. The compound is classified as a laboratory compound rather than an approved therapeutic in most jurisdictions.
Identity and purity of dihexa samples are typically assessed with high-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. These methods can confirm molecular mass and estimate the presence of impurities. However, a certificate of analysis from a supplier is not a guarantee of independent testing. Researchers often require in-house verification before using a peptide in experiments. For solid samples, appearance, solubility, and chromatographic profile provide additional checks. Nuclear magnetic resonance may be used for structural confirmation when available.
Dihexa is commonly handled as a lyophilized powder in laboratory settings. Storage at -20 °C in a desiccated, light-protected container is typical for peptides. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles can degrade the material, so aliquoting is often recommended. Aqueous solutions may be less stable than organic stocks and should be prepared fresh when possible. Personnel should follow institutional safety procedures and avoid uncontrolled exposure. Because human effects are not well characterized, handling precautions are prudent.
The proposed mechanism of dihexa centers on activation of the hepatocyte growth factor receptor, also called c-Met. Some studies suggest it acts as a mimetic of hepatocyte growth factor, promoting signaling pathways involved in synapse formation. Other work has explored interactions with angiotensin IV pathways, but the exact binding targets remain uncertain. Laboratory findings come mainly from cell cultures and animal models. Whether these mechanisms operate similarly in humans is an open question. Researchers have not established a single, universally accepted mechanism of action.

In March 2023, TikTok announced default screen time limits for users under the age of 18. The Wall Street Journal has reported that doctors experienced a surge in reported cases of tics, tied to an increasing number of TikTok videos from content creators with Tourette syndrome. Doctors suggested that the cause may be a social one as users who consumed content showcasing various tics would sometimes develop tics of their own, akin to mass psychogenic illness. In May 2024, Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers filed a lawsuit against TikTok for allegedly harming minors' mental health through an algorithm designed to be cultivate compulsive behavior. In October 2024, US senators Richard Blumenthal and Marsha Blackburn requested that TikTok turn over "all documents and information" related to child safety disclosures that were uncovered by NPR and Kentucky Public Radio. As of March 2025, strong scientific understanding of TikTok's effects on user's mental health "remains elusive". A 2025 meta-analysis found that use of TikTok was correlated with symptoms of anxiety and depression, with stronger links in females and users under 24 years old. In November 2025, French prosecutors opened a probe into TikTok, citing concerns that its algorithms could push vulnerable young people to suicide. The Ministry of Education (Taiwan) has warned against the harmful impact of TikTok and related app RedNote on body image and ensuing self harm related to weight loss especially in teenagers.

Yale University entered into its own licensing agreement with a private company, leading Fenn to file a lawsuit against the school in 1996. Yale countersued, requesting damages and reassignment of the patent. The two parties did not reach an out of court settlement, despite repeated attempts at mediation. In 2005, U.S. District Judge Christopher Droney ruled against Fenn, awarding Yale $545,000 in royalties and $500,000 in legal fees. Judge Droney was critical of Fenn, saying "Dr. Fenn only obtained the patent through fraud, civil theft, and breach of fiduciary duty." Evidence presented in the case indicated that Fenn had served on panels at Yale University that reviewed the institution's policy on intellectual property. A spokesperson for Yale said, "We are pleased by the result in this case and, in particular, by the court's vindication of the Yale patent policy." The ruling, and Yale's response produced a mixed reaction from some of Fenn's colleagues and former students, who wrote a letter to the Yale Daily News stating, "'Vindicating the Yale patent policy' is a poor excuse for treating a Nobel Laureate with a 68-year association with and dedicated service to the University, in such a contemptible manner."
At the Villejuif Mental Hospital in November 1951, he and Montassut administered an intravenous dose to psychiatrist Cornelia Quarti, who was acting as a volunteer. Quarti noted the indifference but fainted upon getting up to go to the toilet, and so further testing was discontinued. (Orthostatic hypotension is a known side effect of chlorpromazine). Despite this, Laborit continued to push for testing in psychiatric patients during early 1952. Psychiatrists were reluctant initially, but on 19 January 1952, it was administered (alongside pethidine, pentothal and ECT) to Jacques Lh., a 24-year-old manic patient, who responded dramatically; he was discharged after three weeks, having received 855 mg of the drug in total. Pierre Deniker had heard about Laborit's work from his brother-in-law, who was a surgeon, and ordered chlorpromazine for a clinical trial at the Sainte-Anne Hospital Center in Paris where he was chief of the men's service. Together with the hospital director Jean Delay, they published their first clinical trial in 1952, in which they treated thirty-eight psychotic patients with daily injections of chlorpromazine without the use of other sedating agents. The response was dramatic; treatment with chlorpromazine went beyond simple sedation, with patients showing improvements in thinking and emotional behaviour. They also found that doses higher than those used by Laborit were required, giving patients 75–100 mg daily.
In other places, such as Australia, suvorexant is a prescription-only medicine and is not a controlled drug. Suvorexant is not available in generic formulations. Besides suvorexant, other orexin receptor antagonists like lemborexant and daridorexant have also been introduced.
== Dried plasma spot == This technology is similar to dried blood spot sampling however instead of collecting whole blood on a membrane, it separates red blood cells from plasma. A dried plasma spot (DPS) is usually a drop of capillary blood on a plasma separation card, the first membrane will filter all the red blood cells, while the second membrane aborbs the cell free plasma. This method is ideal for processing and storage of plasma.

=== British government stance === The British government's refusal to grant independence to Southern Rhodesia under the 1961 constitution was largely the result of the geopolitical and moral shifts associated with the Wind of Change, coupled with the UK's wish to avoid opprobrium and loss of prestige in the United Nations (UN) and the Commonwealth. The issue gained international attention in Africa and worldwide as a flashpoint for questions of decolonisation and racism. By the early 1960s, general consensus in the post-colonial UN—particularly the General Assembly, where the communist bloc and the Afro-Asian lobby were collectively very strong—roundly denounced all forms of colonialism, and supported communist-backed black nationalist insurgencies across southern Africa, regarding them as racial liberation movements. Amid the Cold War, Britain opposed the spread of Soviet and Chinese influence into Africa, but knew it would become an international pariah if it publicly expressed reservations or backed down on NIBMAR in the Southern Rhodesia question. Once the topic of Southern Rhodesia came to the fore in the UN and other bodies, particularly the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), even maintaining the status quo became regarded as unacceptable internationally, causing the UK government a great deal of embarrassment. In the Commonwealth context, too, Britain knew that simply granting independence to Southern Rhodesia was out of the question as many of the Afro-Asian countries were also Commonwealth members.
Brown adipose tissue activation improves glucose homeostasis and insulin sensitivity in humans suggesting that anyone with impaired insulin function might benefit from BAT activation; however, there is broader application given research showing even mildly elevated blood glucose in healthy non-diabetic humans is associated with damage over time of many organs such as eyes, tendons, endothelial/cardiovascular system and brain, and results in higher levels of damaging advanced glycation end products. Brown adipose tissue activation may play an important role in bone health and bone density. Brown adipose tissue activation through cold exposure increases adiponectin levels, just two hours of cold exposure resulted in a 70% increase in circulating adiponectin in adult men. Centenarians (both men and women) and their offspring have been found to have genetics that boost adiponectin, and they have higher circulating adiponectin, suggesting a link between longevity and adiponectin production. In addition, high concentrations of plasma adiponectin in centenarians was associated with favorable metabolic indicators, and with lower levels of C-reactive protein and E-selectin. Cold exposure increases circulating irisin. Irisin improves insulin sensitivity, increases bone quality and quantity, is involved in the building of lean muscle mass, and helps reduce obesity by converting white fat to brown fat, providing many of the same benefits of exercise.
== Prognosis == With treatment, the majority of people with BPD can find relief from distressing symptoms and achieve remission, defined as a consistent relief from symptoms for at least two years. Remission rates are about 50–70% over five years. The remission rate is estimated to be around 50% at ten years, with 93% of people being able to achieve a two-year remission and 86% achieving at least a four-year remission, with a 30% risk of relapse over 10 years. Patient personality can play an important role during the therapeutic process, leading to better clinical outcomes. Recent research has shown that BPD patients undergoing dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) exhibit better clinical outcomes correlated with higher levels of the trait of agreeableness in the patient, compared to patients either low in agreeableness or not being treated with DBT. This association was mediated through the strength of a working alliance between patient and therapist; that is, more agreeable patients developed stronger working alliances with their therapists, which, in turn, led to better clinical outcomes. In addition to recovering from distressing symptoms, people with BPD can also achieve high levels of psychosocial functioning. A longitudinal study tracking the social and work abilities of participants with BPD found that six years after diagnosis, 56% of participants had good function in work and social environments, compared to 26% of participants when they were first diagnosed. Vocational achievement was generally more limited, even compared to those with other personality disorders.
=== Congregation for the Causes of Saints === On 8 May 1969, Pope Paul VI issued the apostolic constitution Sacra Rituum Congregatio, separating the Congregation into two parts: The Congregation for the Divine Worship and the renamed Sacred Congregation for the Causes of Saints, which was given three offices, those of the judiciary, the Promoter General of the Faith, and the historical-juridical. With the changes in the canonization process introduced by Pope John Paul II in 1983, a College of Relators, with five relators (priests appointed to oversee the canonisation process), was added to prepare the cases of those declared as Servants of God. In January 2014, the Prefect of the Congregation announced that at the direction of Pope Francis those working on canonizations must adhere to financial guidelines to eliminate unfairness in the treatment of cases based on the financial resources provided. According to L'Osservatore Romano, Pope Francis hoped to promote the causes of those less well-known, those from poorer regions, and those who were victims of 20th-century totalitarian persecutions.
